nice feedback - would be nicer feedback if you explained what you think needs to be better ? how is the ui in there not pleasing to you ? what do you feel is wrong with it ?

First of all, would be nice a bigger screen-shot, to see the UI better... It looks to pixelated (is this even a word ? :lol: ).
Dunno what to say more... About the entire scene: there is to much gray... trees are gray, grass is greyish, UI gray(maybe because it's not finished...), there is no contrast...

ah now i see what you mean, this post was just to judge the UI of the character sheet - middle left as an upgrade from the original ui

I know poll is closed but, In my opinion I think this on looks the best, I like the whole scroll/paper look it has but i dont like how it has 0 transparency. Instead of making the UI a certain transparency, I think it would be much better to include options to set the transparency level.

I agree with Tony, the last one looks the best .p

Dunno if it is possible but could there be a "transparency" slider at the bottom of the UI? That way, players could decide how much transparency they wanted.

And will there be a character portrait in the middle? Because if there isnt nothing in the middle, it's a bunch of "wasted" space. I think it would look better if the head box was on centre top, the waist on the middle, etc.

I know this post is long ago ..but I have a question about the casting timer sir. Will we be able to move that around to a spot we might like better or will that be a set spot for it ? I tend to like a casting timer up near or below my charator health bars ..out of my line of sight but still where I can see it when I want to. I am not a big fan of "bars" hovering over my charator's head and tend to like a clear view in that area.

at the moment all the ui's are static however we hope to upgrade the ui part and make all things moveable - so if not at first eventually it will be movable.

Back then I was saying that these days, there should be a more modern UI, the one from screenshots looks from an old game, maybe because it's pixelated, blured, I dunno. So I made just a quick sample. This one also is not very great, but just to give more Ideas of an UI interface.

It's not finished, as I said - just a sample, there should be something in midde, and a close button.

No, in my opinion. I think the one that is more wood/bark based works better with the game theme. Hmmm maybe one that is on a papyrus scroll ?

the one we are using at the moment is based on a paper type substance encased in wood with metal filgree's

I'm not telling that my sample is better. And I told you,with this sample, I wanted you to see the difference.
How should I say it, first, there should be a more Hi-Res textures. Second there is no contrast. The border model is good, but its very ... I dunno, blured, like it was zoomed in. And it's like made in 256 colors mode. It looks old. A Hi-Res border would be a lot better.

As I told you, I'm not really good myself, I just try to think as a player, and to compare this UI to a modern game, and I don't think that someone will release a game with this UI. Sorry, I don't try to be mean, but if Factions needs to be a good game, there should be a better UI, cause all this things count, a player could just look at some of unfinished things like this, and he will just leave the game from the start, without properly trying it.

Maybe you could have it so that the player could choose between the UIs? Like maybe you could "Build" one using materials in game, or it could be a micro-transaction thing to get new ones if you're having those.

I made that metal texture, first of all because I couldn't find a Hi-Res and good looking paper/scroll/wooden texture, It's just a quick thing I did today in my free time. No, I don't have any more samples, I didn't make UI for games, until now just tried to do some webpage designs in photoshop )
At least I think the items slots shouldn't be just simple squares with text in them. There should be images in every slot, but I had no time to play with the UI more.

TheeLord, is there some progresion with the game in the past half a year ? If so, maybe add some new screens, videos from the game.

It will be more than just squares and text. those are the holders for when nothing is equipped in those slots

in the past 6 months there has been changes to the very core of the design none of which really have any visible quantity, we now have an ai server for example which makes for a very dull screenshot i can tell you, we have all had alot of under the hood changes such as missions and crafting being implemented. where possible we have shown snippets of those. but again they would look very bad in a screenshot.

I like the papyrus one. I don't really think the aesthetic quality of the UI matters so much as long as it is user-friendly and gets the job done.

It doesn't matter ? Do you want in the future players to play this game, or not ? Or is this just a project for learning ? A game that is not well finished, won't attract much players, if any. Every thing counts here: UI, sound, Character animation, models and textures, etc. Well, maybe except minecraft, but that's another story :)

One more role (if it is to assume the role of devil here :) ), about sound, voice acting/quality in prologue video is not good.
